5 Design Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Print Material | Best Offset

🚫 5 Design Mistakes That Can Ruin Your Print Material

Even the best concepts can fall flat if your print design has critical flaws. At Best Offset, we’ve seen it all—and we’re here to help you steer clear of the pitfalls that can derail your next brochure, business card, poster, or flyer.

1. Overcrowded Layout

What happens: Trying to fit every detail on one page leads to a cluttered mess. Readers don’t know where to look first, and your message gets lost in the noise.

  • Tip: Use a clear visual hierarchy—headings, subheadings, and prioritized bullet points.
  • Tip: Embrace white space to give breathing room between elements.

2. Low-Resolution Images

What happens: Pixelated or blurry graphics scream “cheap.” Poor-quality images undermine professionalism and distract from your content.

  • Tip: Always use 300 DPI (dots per inch) or higher for print-ready artwork.
  • Tip: Check that logos and photos are vector or high-resolution bitmaps.

3. Ignoring Color Spaces

What happens: Designing in RGB (screen colors) without converting to CMYK can lead to drastic color shifts—your vibrant blues may turn dull, and bright reds may look muddy.

  • Tip: Always convert your files to CMYK before sending to print.
  • Tip: Use Pantone colors for exact brand matching when needed.

4. Tiny or Inconsistent Typography

What happens: Fonts that are too small or inconsistent across your material can be illegible and look unprofessional. Readers may struggle to find key information.

  • Tip: Keep body text at a minimum of 8–10 pt and headings larger, around 16–24 pt.
  • Tip: Stick to two complementary typefaces maximum for a cohesive look.

5. Neglecting Bleed & Safe Zones

What happens: Cutting too close to the edge or not allowing for printer bleed can result in white slivers along edges or clipped content.

  • Tip: Add at least 3 mm bleed on all sides in your design file.
  • Tip: Keep important text and logos at least 5 mm inside the trim area.

✨ Design with Confidence

Avoid these five pitfalls, and you’ll be well on your way to print materials that look polished, professional, and memorable. At Best Offset, our team ensures your designs are flawless from file check to final delivery.
